Ghod reaches the door to the ballroom, the instructions he had given were correct then. But he still could not believe that halls as huge as these could be hidden so well, and the ballroom in front of him was gigantic as well.
They had left their horses back outside and continued in. Now, at the door, Ghod was anxious. He could see no one and the sense of a trap had grown more acute. He lined up all 15 pikemen in front of him in a V and continued on with 10 bowmen spreading out to either side of the 15 swordsmen right behind. The last ten bowmen, including the holder of the Catapult were in the rear as to not fall into a trap. The young knight followed directly behind them by Ghod's order.
They stepped hesitantly forward through the silver webbed door-frame. They were meerly fifty feet into the room when the sense of trap, that Ghod was already certain was there became an unbearable scream to get out of there. That was when the air began to crackle and abruptly the the stairs in front of them started to pop and shatter as a wave of impossibly cold air rolled down them.. all the men tried to flee, but it was too late. The wave had hit the marble floor and was leaving fissures and flying chips of stone as the stone changed temperature so rapidly.
It hit the pikemen and they immediately burst to pieces as all the water in their bodies froze and expanded, turning them into instant explosives. Ghod jumped backwards as this happened, rocketing 30 feet into the air and fifty feet back to slam into the wall above the archway and stick there with his hand injected into it. he watched the swordsmen and archers explode in the same way screaming in his mind sh*t! and I KNEW IT!
The last ten archers and the knight were never in the room though, and he assumed they had time to flee behind a wall. If that was true, he would still have to silence them for seeing his leap. He regretted loosing his best archer though, maybe he could find a way to silence him and still keep him.
He was given no time to think , fore a barrelling blast of fire suddenly shot from one of the balconies straight at him. He lunged to the side, off the wall, and landed in a group of pillars beautifully surrounding and hiding another small room; leaving the wall to shatter behind him. That was when the balcony was blasted to pieces; an incredible section of the room seemed to shatter. He had time only to see two ageless mages torn to shreds before the dust clouded that area of the vast chamber. He would definitely miss that archer. He was incredibly talented and smart, must have been waiting for them to show themselves so he could use the Catapult on them.
Sadly, it cost him dearly; from another balcony came another blast of fire. This one not as forceful, but deathly hot. It hit the entire archway and Ghod new his men were gone.

~Valisaren stood in the back with the bowmen and waited for the inevitable destruction that was about to take place. As he stood there, wondering why he even joined up with such a group of people, he heard the bursts of air and the frantic screams of men coming from the ballroom. He thought about going in to see what could possibly cause such a catastrophe, but decided against it. As the screams began to dissipate, he watched as Ghod flew and stuck above the archway. A moment later, another explosion racketed the archway, throwing Valisaren backward. As he scampered to get up, the passageway behind him filled up with rubble, preventing any escape. They were trapped. He dusted himself off and slowly crept into the ruins of the once magnificent ballroom, searching for any means of salvation. Just as he got through the archway, a huge ball of flame hit it, causing it to collapse behind him. He saw the shards of the shattered men scattered across the floor and the Catapult lying in a lonely corner.~

Ghod leaned against the back of a broad pillar. "Great! Now I have a bunch of BLOODY mages on my hands!" A destructive ball of fire blasted though the pillars and Ghod slipped to the side and threw one of the knives from his sleeve 100 yards across the room and into the mage's eye. He was aiming for the man's neck, but that would do. The mage dropped to the floor bonelessly.
Now he had to move again. There were two more targets on the balcony above him that he had seen. so he grabbed his sword from the scabbard on his back and launched himself fifty yards straight up the wall. Kicking away from the wall at the top, he caught the edge of the jutting out balcony with his left hand and swung himself onto it. The mages had no time to react, fore he cleaved one in two and carried the other to the wall with his momentum and smashed the man's head against cold marble. Were there any more?
The question was answered for him as a man in deep blue robes stepped out of the main doors at the top of the stairs, not fifty yards from where Ghod stood now and on the same level. The man calmly lifted his hand and pointed his palm at Ghod in a pose arrogant enough for a king. He smiled and an icicle grew from his hand at lightning speed and cut straight though Ghod's shoulder like butter. It would have gone straight though his chest if Ghod had not turned to the side. Ghod grabbed his shoulder and grimaced as it painfully began to stitch itself back together.
but time was taken from him again, as the icicle, still extended from the mage's hand split apart at the end into at least 70 just as sharp. They spread apart, forming a deadly net of ice around him and shot back at him from three directions. The mage was forcing Ghod closer; a bad omen, especially with the wicked man smiling so. It only took a second for Ghod to clear the fifty yard and bring his sword down at the mage. Sadly, Ghod was rising at the same time. A pillar of ice had hit him from beneath and he was rocketing towards the ceiling. Not only that, but the ice was wrapping around him.
Ghod brought the hilt of his sword into the pillar and broke the top and himself off. he shed himself of the ice coating as he fell. He was at the ceiling, so it was a 75 yard drop at the least and deadly spines of ice were shooting up at him faster than he could fall. He had to twist around and slash at the ice with his sword to reframe from being impaled in his decent. He finally hit the ground in what looked oddly enough like a forest of ice trees. And the mage was laughing at him though a gap.
Ghod lunged, his only chance was to kill the foul thing. But the gap closed and the forest turned solid around him, enclosing him in a bubble of ice that rapidly shrunk. It came at him in vines that grabbed at his arms and legs as he struggled to keep moving in the shrinking space. That was when he realized that the mage was just trying to suffocate him, and would soon be succeeding. With his sword lodged in the wall of ice that had managed to grow over it, Ghod jumped back to the farthest point from the ballrooms archway as he could get and launched himself off that wall with as much strength as he could muster. He left large indentions in the ice as he threw himself from it and smashed through the meter of ice opposite it. coming out, he dropped the the ballroom floor from the giants, malformed wad of ice completely covering and growing over the side of the balcony and ruined steps.
He lay there in a horrifying calm as the center of the ice suddenly began to clear. It showed though about eight meters if crystal clear ice, the mage. He lounged casually on a chair of ice and smiled contently. The the frozen air began to roll down the steps again. Ghod heard the terrifying sound of it crackling and the marble beneath it popping. What was worst was that Ghod already knew that there was no way for him to escape and no way for him to get though the wall of ice. Unless.......
Ghod quickly scanned the room. He spotted the Catapult in a corner right off, but nobody else was in sight. It was obvious what had happened to them. So Ghod was on his own; though, the sudden thought of the knight not joining him was a shock. He still had to get himself out of this, and quickly ran over to grab the Catapult and dove though the charred remains of the silver webbed archway.
He sprinted though dark passages that would lead to the balconies or kitchens, stopping in one with a rather extravagant bed and wondered about the etiquette these lords and ladies claimed to have. This would do though. He sat against the wall and held his hand palm up. As soon as threads of flesh began to grow upward out of his palm he was growling and laughing painfully to himself. He never knew why he laughed when he was in pain, always just supposed that it was simply a way to avoid crying. The flesh twined itself together above his palm and formed a ball. Out of either side of this ball a rod of white bone began to thread itself together. It was less painful now that he was done splitting nerves, but that wouldn't last lone. The flesh then fell from his hand like that of a decayed corpse leaving a gaping hole in his palm; and Ghod in whimpering laughter while clutching his wrist with the other hand. The hand stitched itself back together and left Ghod sitting there with a plain white crossbow bolt. It needed to be nothing special for this.
He was still hooking it in the crossbow when the wall behind him shattered and left him open the the sound of the crackling air and the mage hiding behind his ice. Ghod jumped back as this happened and leveled the Catapult at him. The mage's grin only flinched for a second in recognition. Of course he would know what it was, the Catapult was what he was here for. But he underestimated it obviously. Ghod fired at the mage straight though the clear section of ice. The crack of five catapults hitting in the point of a small bolt thundered across the room as Ghod's view was obscured by clouds of ice dust. Ghod followed right behind the bolt, even without seeing. He landed in the mages little room right above the mage, who was now on the icy floor. The bolt was still another two feet into the ice behind where the man had been. And Ghod placed his fist two feet though the mage's skull.
Ghod sat there for some time, with his eyes closed. The entire room was now arctic cold, and would stay that way for quite a while. This ice wouldn't be finding the heat to melt it for a while yet either.

~He stood by the catapult, below the balcony that Ghod was on and watched as the man easily finished off the mages. When the last of the mages was no more, he decided he had better do something. He scanned the room for a way out, but found none. It was completely closed in. Just then he thought of something. He looked up to one of the balconies that were still in tact and noticed a small door.~ "It may be my only way out, hopefully it doesn't take me to my death though." ~He ran toward the balcony and ran part way up the wall beside it, kicking off at a point level to the balcony and landed perfectly on it. He slowly walked through the door, careful where he stepped and found himself in a small hall. There were no doors in this hall, other than the one he entered and one at the opposite end.. Running down the hall, he reached the door in no time and stepped into a large room, halfway demolished from the battle in the ballroom.~ "Geesh...Those shockwaves did more damage than I thought..."

Ghod finally opens his eyes thinking he heard something, but no one is there. He checks the mage for anything of value and only finds the blue robes. They seem to be made of something rich and so he takes it over his shoulder and leaves the corpse. Thatching of the other mages or his men are even recognizable now.
Ghod steps out of the little hollow with the seat and works his way to another where his sword is only showing an inch of pommel outside the ice. He takes some time to break it out and heads towards the Dark Corridor to search for a way out, stopping along the way to retrieve his thrown knife from a pile of frozen corpse pieces.

Seeing the collapsed passage, Ghod sighed in exasperation. "As I guessed." He picked a wall that looked likely and was already cracked and jammed his sword into it repeatedly until he could hit it with his shoulder and crumble though. Ghod then found himself in a long storage room with shelves all along the wall. He made his way from there back to the Dark Corridor and to his horse. Mounting the giant black stallion, he rode out of the city, stopping only to have one of his guards at the gate to round up the rest of his horses and take them to the camp.
