There are several rules to keep in mind when it comes to making characters at Four Isles; even a whole board here in the ooc section called Character Creation, which is designed spefically for this purpose. Please read that section, its pretty short, and helps to fill you in on where to start or what stories still need characters involved. Believe me, there are many roles that could still be played. Reading that section of the boards can help inspire RP's, so I encourage that it be read, and quickly.
The differance between Four Isles and many other RPG sites is that there are already several premade stories underlying amungst the isles. This way, its easy to join into an adventurous story or be a part of something thats very fun, rather than just sit around complaing about being bored.
It is also possible, and even recommended, to make more than one character. Perhaps make one for each isle? Find a place that you like, i have no doubts that something fun will be found. A person can even use the same email when they register additional handles, so make as many characters as you can commit to.
However with these pre-existing storylines, there inlies a problem. If a character is created who is too powerful or godly, or just not appropriate for the story, then it can easily upset the balance or plot of the story and distract it from its intentions. Be careful when you make characters, some places need more specific ones than others.
At Four Isles, gods and goddess are not allowed because they specifically distract from storylines. In there general design they in the end only take away from healthy role play, rather than add to it in a positive way. Anyone can make an uber character, it is not a challenge at all. I really do not want to see the realm go downhill because one all poweful newcommer desides to own the place, simply by creating a character who claims to be stronger than all others. Do not do this, limit your character, believe me it will be much more fun for you and all others involved.
Another note when creating characters: New Races I do enjoy seeing new characters made of races that are native to the isles, such as elves (all sorts: night or moon elves, sun elves, wood elves, silver elves, etc), humans, demons, imps (i especially love imps for some reason *chuckles* If you have an imagination, play an imp. you'll definitly get my respect that way.) pixies, fae, fairies, merfolk, creatures, and even incarnations (incarnations must be approved however). But, if you feel so inclined to invent your own race, that is also possible. Most likely their origin will not be from one of the isles unless you can explain why it would logically make sense. If you can do that, then by all means, show me! But, if you decide to invent a race, I want you to be able to tell me about that race. Be detailed. If it makes sense and is interesting, with hints of dynamic and applicable aspects, such as storylines in the making (I could give examples if anyone is curious) then by all means, you have my approval. Otherwise, especially in the case where your character is the most powerful of his/her race, it wont be allowed.
